2025 WBKA Honey Bee Health Day

Memories of the 2025 WBKA Honey Bee Health day.

Once every four years county beekeeping associations host a team from the National Bee Unit to update members on many aspects of the diseases, pests and pathogens that affect honey bees. The event took place 28 June 2025 with speakers from the NBU who spoke on exotic pests, EFB, AFB, varroosis and apiary hygiene. A day hosted by the WBKA in conjunction with the National Bee Unit focused on helping beekeepers better understand bee health, including handling frames with AFB and EFB so that they know how to recognise such diseases.

Memoies from the 2022 WBKA Honey Bee Health Day

Once every four years county beekeeping associations host a team from the National Bee Unit to update members on many aspects of the diseases, pests and pathogens that affect honey bees. Last year, 2022, it was the turn of Wiltshire BKA.

The event took place 3 September 2022 with speakers from the NBU who spoke on exotic pests, EFB, AFB, varroosis and apiary hygiene. The day was led by John Geden, our Regional Bee Inspector, assisted by Avril Earl, our Seasonal Bee Inspector, and other SBIs from neighbouring counties.

Excellent and informative talks from the NBU
Every delegate had the chance to inspect frames with EFB and AFB and do some matchstick rope tests and lateral flow tests
